Designed for cross-border operation throughout Europe, the Vectron locomotive has been manufactured at Siemens Mobility’s Munich-Allah plant since its market launch in 2012.

Thus far, the locomotives have been approved to operate in 20 countries, and are uniquely certified for speeds of up to 230km/h in passenger service. Its multi-system capabilities and country approvals have established the unit as a strong choice for international rail corridors.

Siemens Mobility recently presented the next generation of its Vectron platform, Vectron X, which will see an app store brought into the driver’s cab for the very first time, expanding capabilities with app-based solutions and providing an open digital platform.

Steffen Bobsien, Vice President Locomotives and Coaches at Siemens Mobility, said:

The 2,000th electric Vectron locomotive represents far more than just a production number – it stands for the trust that railway operators across Europe place in our platform every day.

Vectron combines versatility and interoperability with the flexibility to meet a wide range of requirements in European markets. With the digital Vectron X, we are consistently further developing this successful platform and opening the next chapter in its success story.
