Hitachi Rail has announced the donation of a slew of specialist installation equipment used in work to modernise signalling on London’s Underground to three local further education colleges.

The donation, which will see equipment given to Stanmore College, College of North West London and City of Westminster College, is hoped to support to next generation of emerging rail talent, with each college playing a key role in the country’s vocational engineering training.

Items donated include personal protective equipment (PPE) and cable installation tools such as wire strippers, measuring wheels and compression tools, all of which are intended to provide students with hands-on experience with equipment used in digital infrastructure upgrades that have transformed rail travel.

Recently, Stanmore College launched a new Railway Engineering Skills Bootcamp in partnership with Rail Futures, which aims to help equip learners with the technical skills required to support major infrastructure programmes such as London Underground and Network Rail.

Meanwhile, the College of North West London and City of Westminster College, both part of the United Colleges Group, also offer a range of engineering courses and maintain strong links with local infrastructure projects, supporting pathways into employment across the sector.
