Siemens Mobility Norway has been awarded a contract to provide a signalling and train control system for the new Diakonhjemmet Station on the Oslo Metro network.

The contract was signed with Sporveien on 4 July, and forms part of an urban development initiative aiming to create a new accessible public transport hub.

The commissioning of the contract is scheduled for the end of December 2027.

This project highlights our dedication to creating innovative and inclusive transport solutions that enhance mobility and promote sustainable urban development.

Located between the current Steinerud and Frøen stations on the Holmenkollbanen line, the new Diakonhjemmet station will feature side platforms, as well as a pedestrian bridge. It will connect Slemdalsveien with the planned Diakonhjemmet Square.

Diakonhjemmet station will replace the existing Steinerud and Frøen stations, with the signalling and train control system set to enable the full construction of new platforms, alongside the associated track realignment.

As part of the contract, Siemens Mobility will install a new interlocking system, which will be installed in a new technical room in the basement of an adjacent building and provide essential functions for connection to the new CBTC (Communications-Based Train Control) operations at Majorstua station.

The new station will serve as a transitionary station for the CBTC interface.

Other plans for the area include a new high school, as well as a nursing home, 200 new housing units and a kindergarten.
