All three main Birmingham stations – Birmingham New Street, Birmingham Moor Street and Birmingham Snow Hill – will see high levels of congestion today as people travel to witness the funeral cortege for Ozzy Osbourne.

Thousands of fans are expected to descend on the city centre to pay their final respects to the Prince of Darkness today (30 July).

Passengers are being urged to plan ahead and check before they travel, with extra staff available at every station to assist those looking to witness the procession, which is planned to travel along Broad Street from 13:00 and pause at the Black Sabbath bench and bridge, where a large number of tributes have been placed to honour the late frontman.

Elizabeth Graham, Birmingham New Street station manager, said:

As Birmingham pays its respects and celebrates the life of its favourite son, we will have extra staff around throughout the day to help everyone get in and out of the city centre as easily as possible.

With stations and trains expected to be extra busy, it’s important that passengers plan ahead and allow plenty of time to make their journeys and get to their destinations.

Until Monday 04 August; no trains are running on the Cross City north line between Birmingham New Street and Lichfield Trent Valley or between Birmingham New Street and Tamebridge Parkway, with rail replacement buses in operation between all stations.
