Stadler and Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) have officially presented a new double-deck train designed for long-distance service.

The vehicle, part of the KISS model series, was unveiled for the first time in Vienna, with deployment scheduled to begin at the end of 2026.

The presentation event was attended by ÖBB CEO Andreas Matthä, Stadler Chairman Peter Spuhler, and Austrian Federal Minister Peter Hanke. Guests were invited to explore the interior of the train, which is set to operate on the busy Western route between Vienna and Salzburg.

The six-car double-deck trains are expected to provide increased capacity, with each unit offering 486 seats—approximately 20 percent more than the vehicles currently operating on the route. With a top speed of 200 km/h, the new trains will support the growing demand for rail travel in Austria’s main intercity corridor.

The trains feature low-floor entrance areas and wide, barrier-free doors to support passengers with limited mobility, pushchairs, bicycles, or luggage. One of the eight restrooms on each train is also designed to be barrier-free.

Interior features include quiet zones in the end cars, family compartments, and areas for bicycles. Catering facilities are provided via vending machines located in the four central coaches. Other on-board amenities include air conditioning, luggage racks with security features, Wi-Fi, real-time passenger information screens, and power sockets with USB ports.

The full fleet of 14 KISS trains will be introduced gradually from late 2026, in line with ÖBB’s strategy to expand and modernise its long-distance services.
