Hitachi Rail has signed four contracts with CH. Karnchang for the delivery of a new Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system for the MRT Orange Line, as well as upgrades of existing AFC systems on both the MRT Blue & Purple Lines for the Bangkok Expressway and Metro (BEM).

The new system will utilise modernised fare collection technology, digitalise payments with open-loop EMV and integrate QRCode ticketing solutions.

The new system will begin operation across all 28 Orange Line stations, with extensive upgrades across both the Blue & Purple Lines bringing the total number of stations to move to the updated system to 81.

The agreements also include a for a four year maintenance service contract for the Orange Line and a five year maintenance service contract for the QR Ticketing Back-office System.
