Trial operations have commenced on the Chongqingdong to Qianjiang section of the Chongqing-Xiamen High-Speed Railway, following the departure of test train No. 55901 from Chongqingdong Railway Station.

This marks the transition from testing and commissioning to operational trials for the newly constructed section.

The Chongqing segment is part of the Chongqing-Xiamen corridor being developed under China’s national “Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal” railway strategy. The route begins at Chongqing Railway Station and passes through a number of districts, including Yuzhong, Nan’an, Banan, Nanchuan, Wulong and Pengshui, before reaching Qianjiang District. The infrastructure has been designed for a maximum operating speed of 350 km/h.

This phase of trial operations spans approximately 250 kilometres and includes seven stations along the route. It does not yet include the Chongqing Caiyuanba Yangtze River tunnel, which connects Chongqing Railway Station to Chongqingdong Station and remains under construction. Progress on the tunnel is reported to be on schedule.

Once the line is complete, the high-speed connection is expected to reduce travel time between central Chongqing and Qianjiang from around four hours to less than an hour.
