Italian transport operator FS Group has confirmed plans to launch a new high-speed rail service between Paris and London by 2029.

The initiative forms part of the company’s 2025–2029 Strategic Plan and is supported by an investment of 1 billion EUR.

FS Group states that the planned service will provide an additional cross-Channel rail option, using Frecciarossa trains designed with a focus on energy efficiency, comfort and service quality.

A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with Spanish mobility firm Evolyn, which will support the delivery of the project.

This project has gained traction following confirmation from the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) regarding capacity at the Temple Mills maintenance depot, which is key for operating through the Eurotunnel.

What’s more, London St. Pancras Highspeed recently announced a new financial incentive scheme aimed at encouraging international train operations through the Channel Tunnel.

FS Italiane Group has operated in France since 2021 and maintains a strong presence in the UK through its involvement with c2c and Avanti West Coast.

With permits secured in France and engagement underway with stakeholders to meet regulatory requirements, the Group is now assessing capacity needs at London St Pancras and exploring funding options to support the launch of its high-speed rail service between Paris and London.
