Italy: CAF to Supply Metro Trains to Naples

The City Council of Naples, the body managing public transport in the city, has awarded the Spanish company CAF a contract for an additional seven metro cars. CAF is currently already manufacturing twelve metro trains for Naples. The two parties signed a framework agreement in 2016. This new order is part of that agreement and is worth around 60 million euros (66.75 million USD). Once the order is completed, Azienda Napoletana Mobilità will be the operator of the new metro trains.

Alstom to Provide Trains for the CDG Express in Paris

Alstom has been awarded a contract to manufacture 13 Coradia Liners for the Hello Paris consortium, a joint venture between Keolis and RATP Group. The Hello Paris consortium will operate the Charles de Gaulle Express (CDG Express), which will run between Paris and Charles de Gaulle Airport when it opens in 2025. The Coradia Liners, which are part of Alstom’s Coradia Polyvalent range, will feature a unique design specific to the CDG Express. Alstom will design and manufacture the trains entirely in France.

Wabtec Delivers 5 PowerHaul Locomotives to Turkey

Wabtec, which recently merged with GE Transportation, has delivered five diesel-electric locomotives to Körfez Ulaştırma A.Ş., a subsidiary of Turkey’s largest oil refinery operator. The Turkish operator placed the order at InnoTrans 2018. The locomotives are compliant with EU emission standards – Stage IIIa – and interoperability standards. Wabtec’s partner in the region, TÜLOMSAŞ, manufactured the locomotives in Turkey.

Talgo Signs Framework Agreement to Improve Trains in Egypt

Spanish rolling stock company Talgo and the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) signed a framework agreement in late July to improve Egypt’s trains. The two companies want to work together in order to improve Egypt’s railway capacity and performance. The overarching goals of this joint venture are to cut travel times and make the quality of public transport in Egypt better. Talgo says this agreement is independent to the April contract it signed with ENR for the supply of six new trains.

Bombardier Transportation Appoints New EMEAI Region President

Andy DeLeone has been chosen by Bombardier Transportation to be the new president for the EMEAI region. This region covers Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India. Andy will be wholly in charge of the company’s business in the EMEAI region whilst based in Switzerland and will report directly to the company president Danny Di Perna. The areas Andy will oversee include customer relationship management, sales, services and project management.

RegioJet Adds Budapest to Its Destinations

Last week RegioJet announced it was terminating its contract with GKB. Instead RegioJet will collaborate with WESTbahn who will operate all RegioJet services in Austrian territory starting 15 December 2019. Following this, RegioJet will add Budapest, Hungary, to its list of destinations starting in June 2020. From then on RegioJet trains won’t all terminate in Vienna anymore, they will continue onwards to Budapest. Once they cross into Hungarian territory, Continental Railway Solution will operate them.

Cairo Region to Get Bombardier INNOVIA Monorail 300 System

A consortium made up of Bombardier Transportation, Orascom Construction and Arab Contractors has won the contract to supply and operate two monorail lines in Cairo and the surrounding region. Not only will the consortium design the monorail lines but will also operate them for a period of 30 years. The total value of the contract is more than 4.5 billion USD (4.1 billion euros) with Bombardier’s share being 2.85 billion USD (2.6 billion euros).

CAF Wins 120 Million Euro European Signalling Contracts

CAF has won signalling contracts for Spain, Slovenia and Bulgaria. The total worth of the contracts is more than 120 million euros (134.48 million USD). In Spain the signalling contract has been awarded to a consortium which consists of CAF and Thales. The CAF-ISKRA consortium will deliver the signalling works in Slovenia and the Bulgaria signalling contract has gone to the AER and CAF consortium. The signalling works across Spain, Slovenia and Bulgaria include interlocking facilities, refurbishment of existing signalling and safety systems and more.

CAF Group Consortium Wins Jerusalem Tram Contract

The Jerusalem tram project contract has been awarded to the CAF Group, in a consortium with Saphir. The Jerusalem tram projects involves building a 20.6km tram line for the new Green Line and a 6.8km extension to the existing Red Line. The project also includes the construction of 53 stations and a number of depots. The CAF-Saphir consortium will refurbish the 46 Alstom Citadis trams currently operating on the Red Line as well as deliver 114 Urbos trams, which will run on the Green Line.

Science and Technology

New Infrared Technology to Reduce Dwell Times in Sydney

Downer has partnered with the University of Technology Sydney, in collaboration with the Rail Manufacturing Cooperative Research Centre, to develop Dwell Track. Dwell Track is an infrared digital imaging system that aims to reduce dwell times in Sydney by optimising customer flow and safety on platforms. Wynyard was the first station to have the new technology installed. Sixteen infrared and digital devices were installed and are being trialed at Wynyard Station. The devices can detect movement without identifying passengers.
