SNCF Voyageurs’ Board of Directors has approved an additional order for a set of 15 new-generation Avelia Horizon very high-speed trains (known in France as TGV) from Alstom.

The order is worth 600 million EUR, with deliveries expected to commence in 2029.

In order to meet European traffic requirements; Alstom will provide a set of quad-voltage versions of the trains, which are in addition to the 115 trains making up SNCF Voyageurs’ initial order.

Thus far, Alstom has been set to provide 115 trains to SNCF, 100 of which will be used for commercial operation in France and 15 in Europe, as well as 30 trains to Eurostar – bringing the total number of trains within the contract to 160.

Consisting of two short locomotives, the Avelia Horizon aims to combine both high-speed performance and a more compact form factor. The units boast a 30% reduction in typical maintenance costs currently recorded by SNCF in France, and will consume up to 20% less energy than any existing TVG.

Of Alstom’s 14 French sites, 10 will be involved in the project, including:
