The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) has announced the delivery of the 28th and final light rail vehicle (LRV) for the Purple Line project.

The vehicle arrived ahead of schedule and enables the project team to continue testing and commissioning activities along the full alignment.

Purple Line Senior Project Director Ray Biggs II said:

This milestone underscores the tremendous progress the Purple Line has made in 2025. Every milestone we reach brings us closer to delivering a more accessible and better-connected region.

The vehicle delivered on 19 November completes the project’s order of 28 LRVs. Each vehicle measures 142 feet in length and has a passenger capacity of 430, including seating for 80. The LRVs can accommodate up to eight wheelchairs and include eight bike racks to support first- and last-mile travel.

The vehicles were manufactured by CAF and assembled in Elmira, New York. Following delivery, each vehicle undergoes a series of commissioning and testing procedures.

Construction on the Purple Line is now 84.6% complete, with more than 148,000 of 193,100 feet of track laid, representing 76.6% of overall rail progress. All tracks in Prince George’s County have been installed.
