Network Rail has released a series of images showing the first six months of progress on the new Okehampton Interchange station.

The station, which is set to open in 2026, is the latest addition to the Dartmoor Line, which connects West Devon, Torridge and North Cornwall with Exeter.

Funding for the 15 million GBP station has ben provided by the Department for Transport (DfT), with additional contributions from Devon County Council and West Devon Borough Council.

Work on the station first began in January, which is situated on the edge of Okehampton by the A30. By March, 3o0 metres of single-line track was moved 90cm north to allow for the installation of a new platform alongside it, as the previous track layout was unable to accommodate a platform that meets regulations for new stations.

New track was also installed alongside 20 concrete sleepers within the new alignment and 1,000 tonnes of ballast (track stone) was laid and compacted. Drainage work was also carried out, with two new chambers built under the track and 300 tonnes of stone laid.

In May, 25 bored piles were driven 12 metres into the ground in order to support the new platform, footbridge and lift, with the next phase of work set to see the footbridge and lift shaft installed this autumn.

Work is also underway to construct a 200-space car park and station platform.
