Alstom has completed production on the first carbody shell for a set of 37 trains destined for Santiago Metro’s Line 7.

The shell was completed at Alstom’s factory in Taubaté in São Paulo, Brazil, where the entire fleet is set to be produced.

The contract between Alstom and Metro de Santiago includes the supply of the Urbalis CBTC signalling system, a 20-year maintenance contract and a predictive maintenance system for the trains, tracks and catenary, alongside the aforementioned 37 trains.

The production of the first carbody shell marks an important milestone among the many to follow in this train manufacturing process.

These trains will not only enhance the quality of mobility and transport in Chile by ensuring reliable, safe, and accessible transportation, but will also offer the city of Santiago an efficient and environmentally friendly means of travel for millions of passengers.

Alstom’s Metropolis trains are built to last for more than 40 years and measure in at 102 metres long with a capacity to carry up to 1,250 people.

The cars are set to feature four wide doors on each side, large corridors, open walkways between cars, air conditioning, advanced passenger information systems, USB charging ports and a cybersecurity system.

Currently under construction, Santiago’s Metro Line 7 will operate over a span of 26 kilometres and include 19 stations across seven districts: enca, Cerro Navia, Quinta Normal, Santiago, Providencia, Vitacura, and Las Condes.

Thus far, Alstom has provided Metro de Santiago with its NS74, NS93, AS02, NS04, and NS16 fleets, with the new AS22 train fleet destined for operation on Line 7 once complete.
