Stadler and Trinity Metro have signed a contract for four additional DMU FLIRT vehicles.

These diesel multiple units will add to the existing fleet of Stadler FLIRTs that have been in operation in Fort Worth, Texas – the city Trinity Metro serves – since 2019.

One of the services Trinity Metro operates is the TEXRail service, which is seeing growing demand. Since it launched in December 2019, it has had more than 3 million passengers and it is continuing to be a vital transport offering in North Texas. To build on this success and prepare for future growth, Trinity Metro has signed a contract for four new Stadler FLIRT DMUs, which are to be delivered in 2027.

Trinity Metro has made this move at the same time as it has increased its midday train services to 30-minute intervals, up from hourly services.

Stadler’s US headquarters are in Salt Lake City, which is where the original TEXRail FLIRT fleet was assembled. The new trains will complement the original fleet and will also be assembled in Salt Lake City.

The TEXRail service connects downtown Fort Worth with Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. Several trains operating on this line have already travelled more than 500,000 miles.

Martin Ritter, CEO Stadler US Inc., pointed out that the TEXRail project was the first project Stadler US got to assemble in the US from start to finish and highlighted that the company was honoured to once again be trusted to supply the vehicles for Trinity Metro’s fleet expansion.
