Amtrak Executive Vice President, Capital Delivery Laura Mason said:

“Updating railroad infrastructure is a fundamental component of our plan to deliver a new era of rail by modernising the Amtrak fleet, building new bridges and tunnels, revitalising stations and redefining the customer experience for the modern era. We’re grateful to our partners for their cooperation and flexibility as we advance these critical projects to achieve a state of good repair and enhance the overall Amtrak customer experience.”

Details of the rail improvement work being carried out through summer 2023 include:

  • Replacing 40 track switches in the New York and Mid-Atlantic regions
  • Updating 25 miles of track in the Mid-Atlantic region
  • Completing over one million feet of surfacing work across the NEC for high-speed rail

Amtrak has adjusted its train schedules to account for this work but is warning customers that they may experience minor delays.
