Under a new group order, Alstom will supply the metropolitan areas of Toulouse, Brest and Besançon in France with a total of 22 Citadis trams.

This order will include 9 trams for Toulouse, 8 for Brest and 5 for Besançon.

During an 8-year period, additional units may also be ordered to meet eat transport agency’s future needs.

These Citadis trams will reduce energy consumption by at least 25% compared to the current vehicles

The first deliveries will take place in Besançon in March 2025, with entry into service scheduled for September.

Brest will then receive its first new trams in July 2025, while the first deliveries in Toulouse are scheduled for January 2026.

The Citadis trams will be 32.5 metres long and 2.4 metres wide. They will each feature 4 double doors and will have capacity for 201 passengers.

For a comfortable and safe journey, the Citadis trams are air-conditioned and equipped with a dynamic passenger information system

The new vehicles have been designed to provide an increased level of service and comfort for passengers, while also reducing energy consumption by at least 25% compared to the trams currently in operation.

In addition, Alstom states that the new units will reduce maintenance operations by 18% during their 30 years of commercial operation.

Nine Alstom sites in France will be involved in manufacturing the new trams:

• La Rochelle, for design and assembly
• Le Creusot, for the bogies
• Ornans, for the motors
• Villeurbanne, for on-board electronics and cyber security
• Aix-en-Provence, for the tachometric units
• Sens, Gennevilliers and Saint-Florentin, for brake discs and linings
• Saint-Ouen, for design
