UK Railtours operated ‘The Scotsman’s Salute’ special from King’s Cross to York on January 11, paying tribute to Sir William McAlpine. Gresley ‘A3′ No. 60103 Flying Scotsman hauled the outbound leg, with DB Cargo No. 90028 Sir William McAlpine returning guests to London later in the day. JAMES HAMILTON ‘The Scotsman’s Salute’ ran as a memorial to Sir William McAlpine, who passed away in March 2018, and carried members of his family, leading industry figures and enthusiasts wishing to bid farewell to the former owner of the ‘A3’. On arrival in York, passengers transferred to the National Railway Museum for a naming ceremony, where DB Cargo Class 90 No. 90028 was christened Sir William McAlpine.
