Alstom has secured a contract to design, supply, test and commission its ONVIA Control ETCS Level 2 trackside signalling system for Sector 1 North along Queensland’s new Sunshine Coast line.

The contract, which has been valued at 69 million EUR (114 million AUD) and is the first tranche of a larger 214 million EUR (354 million AUD) contract, was awarded to Alstom by the Queensland Government, and pertains to Stage 1 of The Wave project.

Forming part of Queensland’s broader ETCS programme, the work will aid in the delivery of a safer, more efficient and higher-capacity rail system.

The programme aims to lay a foundation for the State’s sectorisation strategy, representing a milestone in the preparation of rail infrastructure for the Brisbane 2032 Olympics and Paralympic Games.

South East Queensland’s Sector 1 North project seeks to enable increased network capacity and improved reliability across one of the region’s biggest corridors, and will be deployed across brownfield and greenfield sections of The Wave, as well as along the North Coast Lien to the Sunshine Coast.

The project will be delivered collaboratively for the Queensland Government by Alstom as the ETCS contractor, in partnership with Queensland Rail as the network operator and multiple civil contractors delivering infrastructure works.

Alstom has thus far implemented its ETCS Level 2 system across thousands of kilometres of railway in more than 35 countries.
