Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) has launched a new initiative with the Austrian Post to establish 24/7 postal stations at railway stations across the country.

The new installations will allow rail passengers to both pick up and send parcels, with 50 stations set to be built at ÖBB stations in Austria within the coming months.

Available for use 24 hours a day, seven days a week; the postal stations will be powered by their own electricity, which will be generated via a photovoltaic module situated on the roof of each structure.

Silvia Angelo, Member of the Management Board of ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG, said:

Train stations are central mobility hubs – places where people not only arrive and depart daily, but can also access services. The new 24/7 postal stations are a further step towards establishing train stations as modern service centers in people’s everyday lives and making our passengers’ journeys even more efficient.

I am particularly pleased that we are also relying on innovative, energy-independent solutions – another step towards a sustainable and modern infrastructure for Austria.

The first post office has been installed in Leobendorf, Lower Austria. With over 50 compartments, the office is located directly in front of the station building, opposite the Park & Ride car park.

I am particularly proud of the deployment of the first energy-self-sufficient post office with a photovoltaic module. It supplies its own electricity and thus represents an important step towards sustainable and future-oriented infrastructure.
