Transport UK and East Midlands Railway (EMR) have announced that the first Aurora train from EMR’s new 400 million GBP fleet will enter service this December.

The 33 train bi-mode trains will be equipped with extra seating, improved air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, plug sockets and customer information screens.

Each train will take full advantage of the 1.5 billion Midland Main Line upgrade, with the fleet capable of running on electric overhead lines.

The fleet will provide 24% more seating and more than 19% more leg room in a five carriage formation when compared to the Meridian trains currently running on EMR routes. Once the full fleet has entered service, it will provide an increase in seat availability of 46% across the Midland Main Line.

Each of the new trains has been fitted with modern seating from Derby-based design firm DG Design, and offers a new Wi-Fi system utilising multiple sim cards to ensure a stronger connection.
