The consortium – comprising MoniRail, PA Consulting, Imperial College London, University of Sussex, QinetiQ, University of Birmingham, Unipart, and Transport for London – has been recognised for its pioneering work on RQINS in the “Digital Technology Project of the Year” category.

This world-first project successfully tested quantum sensing technologies in live rail environments, enabling accurate train positioning in GPS-denied areas such as tunnels and dense urban corridors. The RQINS solution delivers 10x greater accuracy than traditional systems, with zero reliance on satellite signals – transforming rail safety, efficiency, and infrastructure costs.

Peter Ainsworth, CEO at MoniRail, commented on the team’s shortlisting:

“It is fantastic for our Quantum work to be recognised in the APM Awards. Beyond the incredible efforts of the team, the project also highlights the power of cross-industry collaboration – when key players come together to deliver truly innovative solutions for the rail sector.”

We look forward to attending the awards ceremony on Monday, 17th November, in London. See you there!
