Alstom has been selected to deliver a new high-capacity driverless signalling system for stations on the Land Transport Authority of Singapore’s East West Line.

The line will connect to the Thomson-East Coast Line extension (TELe).

The contract covers the conversion of the Tanah Merah, Expo and Changi Airport stations to TEL, as well as the equipment of the line extension to the in-progress Changi Airport Terminal 5 station, directly connecting the TEL to Changi Airport.

As part of the agreement; Alstom will provide its Urbalis CBTC system, which is already in operation on TEL, whilst its consortium partner, ST Engineering Urban Solutions Ltd., will provide both the Data Communication System (DCS) and Platform Screen Doors (PSD).

The TEL extension is set to introduce a new, direct, high-speed connection central city areas, as well as residential zones, reducing overall travel times for commuters and international travellers and representing a key milestone under the LTMP 2040 plan to deliver a more comprehensive land transport system in Singapore.

Once completed, the TEL will run 57 km from Tana Merah through Gardens by the Bay, Maxwell, Orchard and up to Woodlands North, with a transfer option to the Johor Bahru – Singapore Rapid Transit System Link, reducing current travel times between Changi Airport and Marina Bay to 45 minutes from 55.
