Alstom has been awarded a 2025 Red Dot Award for the design of its high-speed train, the Avelia Stream Nordic X80, at an official ceremony on 8 July in Essen, Germany.

Specifically engineered for harsh Scandinavian conditions of temperatures between –40 and +35°C; the train is equipped with energy-efficient systems, including regenerative braking and a low-drag aerodynamic profile, and can travel at speed through up to 80cm of snow.

The train is capable of carrying up to 270 seated passengers and is fitted with multifunctional areas for bicycles, strollers and wheelchairs.

The Avelia Stream Nordic X80 is equipped with extra-wide doors to allow for easy passenger access, as well as a flexible seat layout. The train is designed for speeds of up to 200 km/h, and features the European ERTMS signalling system.
