Stadler Produces First Double-Decker Carriage in Hungary Plant

Stadler has unveiled its very-first aluminium double-decker carriage body produced in its factory in in Szolnk, Hungary.

The unit was revealed at an event celebrating the 15 year anniversary of the plant, with the company announcing its commitment to continued development of the factory.

The celebration was attended by Péter Szijjártó, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Peter Spuhler, Chairman of the Board of Stadler.

The Chairman of the Board of Stadler Rail Group said:

“We are very proud of how our plant has developed over the last 15 years. Today, it is the largest carbody plant in the Stadler Group. Hungary is a strategic market for Stadler, and I am delighted that more and more Stadler trains are operating on the Hungarian rail network.

“This would not have been possible without the enormous commitment of our employees, so a big thank you to all of them, too.”

Stadler’s Szolnok factory was first opened in 2009, and initially carried the intention of producing up to 200 carriage bodies per year, with the first year seeing the production of a total of 52 with a staff of 100 employees.

Since its opening, the plant has grown to become the largest in the CEE region, and Stadler has committed to the continued development of the site, such as the introduction of new friction stir welding (FSW) technology, which aims to improve sustainability efforts on site with less reliability on raw material, energy and waste.
