UK: Final City Beam Trains Enter Southeastern Fleet

The final two Class 707 trains have entered customer service to complete Southeastern’s City Beam fleet.

30 of the five-car City Beams now operate on the Grove Park, Hayes, and Dartford Metro routes, having been transferred from South Western Railway (SWR) to Southeastern since September 2021.

The City Beam trains offer a modern and accessible design. Each train features spacious interiors with two wheelchair spaces per five carriages, customer information systems indicating available seating, Wi-Fi, power outlets, air-conditioning, and enhanced heating and ventilation for comfort.

The last two trains were transferred to Southeastern on 7 September to be repainted from SWR red to Southeastern blue at the Gillingham depot.

These new trains are part of Southeastern’s efforts to replace its older Networker trains and enhance travel experiences for passengers.

The Class 707 trains are leased from Angel Trains and maintained in collaboration with Siemens.

Mark Johnson Southeastern’s Engineering Director, said:

“I’m really pleased that we now have all 30 of the City Beams available for customers. They are the newest and most accessible trains in our Metro fleet and have been a big hit since they came on the Southeastern network.

“Refreshing our fleet is an important part of our drive to build a better, more reliable and sustainable railway, and we are continuing to work to upgrade our trains in the coming months and years.”
