InnoTrans 2024 is set to showcase significant advancements in tunnelling and rail infrastructure, focusing on enhanced safety and environmental sustainability in tunnel construction.

The Tunnel Construction segment will be hosted in Hall 5.2 and will feature over 30 exhibitors. These exhibitors will present tunnelling equipment, fire prevention equipment, air-conditioning, ventilation, safety systems, engineering services and monitoring systems.

Meanwhile, the Railway Infrastructure segment will cover a further seven halls featuring building materials, rail track and overhead line construction, measuring systems and signalling and control systems.

Brenner Base Tunnel

The tunnelling segment at InnoTrans 2024 will also highlight the Brenner Base Tunnel project, which is set to become the world’s longest underground rail link.

BBT SE, the project operator, will present the technical details and progress of this monumental project at Stand 620 in Hall 5.2.

Once operational in 2032, this 64-kilometre tunnel will significantly reduce travel time between Innsbruck and South Tyrol from 80 to 25 minutes, and cut freight transit time by two-thirds. It aims to shift a large volume of goods traffic between Munich and Verona from road to rail, supporting longer and heavier trains with a single locomotive.

Other exhibitors in the tunnelling segment will include Niedax, Orascom Construction, FOGTEC, Valente, CFT, and WEBAC-Chemie.

International Tunnel Forum

The event will also host the International Tunnel Forum as part of the InnoTrans Convention.

This forum will explore relevant challenges and considerations in the tunnelling sector on 25 and 26 September.

Key topics include underground construction aligned with UN sustainability goals, low-carbon concrete solutions, and the utilisation of excavated materials.
