Amtrak has invested 20.8 million USD to complete significant accessibility improvements at several Bay Area stations in Califonia.

This investment will provide a more accessible and comfortable experience for all customers at the Martinez, Hayward, Fremont, and Oakland-Coliseum Stations.

These upgrades, largely funded by Federal investments, are part of Amtrak’s ADA Stations Program, which is dedicated to creating safer and more accessible facilities across its National Network.

Since 2011, Amtrak has invested over 870 million USD in upgrades at 124 stations nationwide through this programme.

Specific station upgrades in the Bay Area include:

• Martinez Station: With an investment of $8.5 million, upgrades to the Martinez Station include a resurfaced platform with tactile warning surfaces, an accessible path from the bus drop-off through the station to the platform, renovated restrooms and a new ticket counter.
• Hayward Station: A 5.6 million USD investment has enhanced the Hayward Station. The station now features a new platform with increased space, a crossing to connect the platforms, energy-efficient LED lighting, and new signage to enhance accessibility.
• Fremont Station: With 4.2 million USD invested, the Fremont Station now has a new platform and additional space on the station-side platform for track access in both directions, energy-efficient LED lighting, and improved station signage.
• Oakland-Coliseum Station: A $2.5 million investment in the Oakland-Coliseum Station has delieverd a resurfaced platform with tactile warnings, improved signage, new trash receptacles, and improved pedestrian pathways.
