Siemens Mobility’s Vectron locomotive has received official approval to operate on the Scandinavian Corridor.

This will enable freight and passenger trains to run along the entire corridor from Austria to Norway without needing to change locomotives.

Vectron receives approval for Scandinavian Corridor

To benefit from this development, Swedish rail operator Snälltåget has leased three Vectron electric locomotives from European Locomotive Leasing (ELL) for cross-border passenger service in Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Austria.

With this service, the Vectron will become the first locomotive equipped with European Train Control System (ETCS) to operate across the 16-kilometre-long Öresund bridge and tunnel between Sweden and Denmark.

The locomotives are manufactured in the Siemens Mobility plant in Munich-Allach, and are equipped with the Trainguard 100/200/300 ETCS on-board system.

Vectron locomotives are now approved for operation in 20 European countries.
