The Government of the Community of Madrid has authorised an investment of 500 million EUR to extend Line 11 of the Madrid Metro.

This extension is a key component of Metro de Madrid’s plan to transform line 11 into the future Diagonal Line, which will connect the city from the southwest to the northeast.

The extension project will build 6.9 kilometres of tracks, the first of the 33 kilometres of the future Diagonal Line

The project will be completed over a period of 42 months and will involve the construction of 6.9 kilometres of new tracks and two new stations: Comillas and Madrid Río. Three existing stations will also be amended to connect the route with lines 1, 3 and 6.

The extension will improve connectivity and reduce travel times for Metro passengers between Cuatro Vientos and Valdebebas. This investment responds to a historical demand from users who reside in Carabanchel and La Fortuna de Leganés, who currently have to change at the Plaza Elíptica for any onward destination.
