UK: The government has announced the allocation of grants from its Housing Infrastructure Fund to transport projects which are intended to facilitate the development of new homes.

This includes £80·8m for the Greater London Authority’s East London Line – Growth Capacity programme to support the development of 14 000 new homes in Southwark and Lewisham.

This project envisages an increase in the frequency of London Overground services on the core section of the East London Line, construction of a new station at Surrey Canal Road and capacity improvements at Surrey Quays station, including the provision of step-free access.

 Other projects to be support are the construction of a station at Beaulieu near Chelmsford in Essex, and rail and other infrastructure works to support the development of housing in the Enfield area of London.

‘I want to see more homes built in the places people want to live, so more people realise the dream of homeownership’, said Chancellor of the Exchequer Sajid Javid when the funding was announced on August 17. ‘But we need the roads, rail links, and schools to support the families living in those homes’.
