Kiwi Rail’s ‘Coastal Pacific’ back after 2016 earthquake Yurtdışı Haberleri by railsistem - Mart 2, 20190 KIWI Rail’s ‘Coastal Pacific’ passenger train between Christchurch and Picton (for connection with ferries to Wellington) restarted operations on December 1. Kiwi Rail locomotive DXR 8022 with the ‘Coastal Pacific’ crossing the new Tirohanga Stream bridge on December 17, where the Kekerengu fault cut through the track. The DXR loco is only one of two DX locomotives rebuilt to DXR (by Toll Rail) in 2005. ROBERT SWEET This development follows a two-year suspension after the Kaikoura earthquake on November 14, 2016, which destroyed sections of the line. The RM has previously reported the line’s reopening for freight services after large-scale reconstruction work involving 190km of railway and 194km of roads, which had to be repaired or rebuilt.
