Hitachi Rail has signed a contract to design, develop, supply, install and commission the railway systems of the Saltillo–Nuevo Laredo corridor in Mexico.

The contract, valued at 168 million EUR, forms part of the Mexican Government’s programme to reactivate and expand passenger rail transport across the country, as well as boost regional economic development.

Representing a major milestone for Hitachi Rail’s Mexican trajectory; the scope of the contract includes:

• Signalling and track protection systems based on the ETCS Level 1 standard
• Advanced telecommunications systems, transmission networks, and CCTV solutions
• SCADA systems for real-time supervision and control of the infrastructure
• Comprehensive equipment for 13 passenger stations, as well as for inspection and conditioning areas, workshops, and depots
• Implementation of an Operational Control Center (OCC) and its backup centre

All components will provide the basis of a next-generation railway infrastructure framed within Phase 1 of the national passenger train programme.

Hitachi Rail has been supplying transportation solutions in Mexico for 55 years, including for projects such as the Mexico City Metro Mass Transit System, Suburban Train, Mexico-Toluca Interurban “El Insurgente” and a number of ticketing systems.
