The first interprovincial urban rail line connecting Jiangsu and Anhui has officially entered initial operation.

China’s first regional railway jointly built, managed, and operated across provincial boundaries; the line went into service on 23 April, and represents a flagship project demonstrating transport integration within the Nanjing Metropolitan Area.

Ground was broken on the project in both Ma’anshan and Nanjing in 2021, with the completed line now running Xishanqiao Station in the latter to Taibai Station in the former. It spans approximately 54.23 kilometres, and has 16 stations.

The line has been designed for a maximum operating speed of 120 km/h, enabling a minimum end-to-end travel time of 37 minutes.

All trains for the project were produced by CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Rolling Stock Co., Ltd., adopt an ATO + manual driving mode and offer high levels of automation. Their high motorisation ratio and high-power traction motors allow for safe, high-frequency, all-weather service. Each train features large LCD dynamic route maps and air conditioning systems utilising variable-frequency.

Lighting systems automatically adjust to ambient brightness, and redundant design has been applied to both structural and electrical systems.
