Parsons has been awarded a contract to carry out design and engineering work for a new light rail extension in eastern Los Angeles County, marking a further stage in the Foothill Gold Line project.

The Parsons Transportation Group has received a 60 million USD, six-year contract from the Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority following a competitive procurement process. The contract covers the design and engineering of a 2.3-mile extension of the LA Metro A Line from Pomona to Claremont.

The extension is planned to bring light rail service to Claremont, a city 30 miles east of downtown Los Angeles at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains. The area includes a walkable town centre and several college campuses. Current project estimates indicate that travel times would be about 38 minutes between Claremont and Pasadena, and about 67 minutes to downtown Los Angeles once services begin.

Parsons was selected based on technical capability, qualifications and interview performance. A company representative said the firm has supported design teams on multiple phases of the Foothill Gold Line programme over the past 25 years.

The Construction Authority reports that 23 of the 25 planned stations along the Foothill Gold Line corridor have been completed, linking central Los Angeles with communities further east. The Pomona to Claremont segment is among the remaining sections in development.
