Earlier this month, the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) opened in Shanghai, providing a platform for domestic and international companies to present developments in technology and industry.

A central rail-focused exhibit this year was the 400 km/h CR450 electric multiple unit (EMU), displayed in model form at the China Pavilion.

The CR450 is being developed under the leadership of China Railway, with CRRC taking part in the programme. The project forms part of ongoing work to enhance the performance, efficiency and reliability of China’s high-speed rail network. The CR450 programme aims to build on the technical foundations of existing 350 km/h EMUs by exploring higher-speed operation and associated system requirements.

The model at CIIE was presented through an interactive and visually detailed installation designed to explain the train’s intended operational features and technical direction. The display also outlined research areas related to traction, braking, aerodynamics and energy use, which remain key considerations for operation at 400 km/h.

CRRC also showcased additional rolling stock developments at the expo — including a light maglev train, a double-deck EMU, the Lijiang sightseeing train and the SRT 3.0. The CR450 attracted particular interest due to its place within China’s next phase of high-speed rail research.

Alongside the technical exhibits, CRRC announced that ten of its subsidiaries signed contracts with eighteen overseas suppliers during the event. The agreements relate to components and services across its manufacturing portfolio and reflect ongoing international cooperation within the company’s supply chain.
