Transport for London (TfL) has launched a new campaign encouraging passengers to be considerate to others around them when using personal devices to play content.

The new campaign, which comes as new TfL research shows that 70% of 1,000 surveyed customers stated they find loud music and speaker phone calls a nuisance, encourages passengers to utilise headphones wherever possible.

With more and more sections of the London transport network gaining 4G and 5G capabilities; the campaign forms the latest part of the operator’s existing #TravelKind campaign, which encouraged customers to be considerate of each other when it initially launched in 2017.

Posters can now be found on the Elizabeth Line, with expansion planned for bus, Docklands Light Railway, London Overground, London Underground and London Tram services beginning in October.

TfL has also partnered with JBL to promote the message, with the two companies running an Instagram competition to win one of five pairs of wireless JBL Live 770 NC headphones.

The operator has also encouraged customers to stay aware when other passengers may need their seat more than them.

Deputy Mayor for Transport, Seb Dance, said:

The vast majority of Londoners use headphones when travelling on public transport in the capital, but the small minority who play music or videos out loud can be a real nuisance to other passengers and directly disturb their journeys.

TfL’s new campaign will remind and encourage Londoners to always be considerate of other passengers. However Londoners spend their journey, whether catching up on their favourite series or listening to music, we want everyone to have a pleasant journey.
