AECOM’s joint venture with AtkinsRéalis has been awarded a consultancy contract for the Hong Kong Section of the Hong Kong–Shenzhen Western Rail Link (Hung Shui Kiu–Qianhai).

The contract was awarded by the Highways Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government.

The project is intended to improve transport connectivity between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, and forms part of wider development plans for the Greater Bay Area.

This cross-boundary railway scheme is a key part of the Northern Metropolis Development Strategy. Once completed, it is expected to improve links across the region by enabling direct travel between Hung Shui Kiu and Qianhai in around 15 minutes.

The rail connection supports the development of a “one-hour living circle” in the Greater Bay Area and is aligned with efforts to enhance cross-boundary commuting, economic integration, and accessibility.

The consultancy agreement includes planning, investigation, design, and construction support for the approximately 7.3-kilometre Hong Kong Section of the link, which will extend from Hung Shui Kiu to the boundary with Shenzhen. In total, the railway will run for about 18.1 kilometres, with the remaining 10.8 kilometres located within Shenzhen. The full line will be integrated into the existing metro systems in both cities.

AECOM and AtkinsRéalis will implement a Common Data Environment (CDE) and a unified Building Information Modeling (BIM) platform throughout the project, aiming to support collaboration and effective project delivery across all stages.
