Stadler has been chosen to deliver seven of its FLIRT trains for Swedish railway company A-Train AB, with an option to deliver one additional vehicle as part of an order worth 250 million CHF.

The trains, which will begin production at the end of 2026, are set to be produced at Stadler’s site in the Rhine Valley SG, and will enter operation on the Arlanda Express line between Arlanda Airport and Stockholm Central Station starting from the end of 2029.

The order also includes a 15-year maintenance contract and sees A-Train AB replacing trains first introduced from a previous supplier in 1999 – which will reach the end of their lives at the end of 2029.

Peter Spuhler, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Stadler, said:

The order shows once again how flexibly and individually our FLIRT can be adapted to specific customer requirements – whether in terms of technology or design. We are delighted that A-Train AB has placed its trust in us and look forward to supplying vehicles for the prestigious Arlanda Express line for the first time. The fact that we can also maintain the trains for 15 years shows that we also stand for top quality in this area.

The additional units will increase passenger seating capacity by more than 50% and will be specifically designed and developed for local Nordic weather conditions.

Each vehicle measures in at a length of 165 metres and will offer 323 seats, wheelchair spaces, large luggage stacks and travel at speeds of up to 200km/h.
