UK: Work Begins on Derby Station Platform Upgrade

Network Rail has started work to upgrade Derby station’s platform one.

This is a regular stop for CrossCountry’s Penzance to Edinburgh service, which travels through cities including Bristol, Birmingham, Leeds and Newcastle.

Resurfacing work is now underway to improve the platform’s resilience – in particular its ability to drain water during heavy downpours. It will also give passengers an improved space to wait for their trains.

Engineers are working at night so as not to affect daytime services, and the upgrade is expected to be completed by the end of March.

John Robson, Regional Director East Midlands & East Anglia, CrossCountry, said:

“We’re delighted that Network Rail is investing in new surfacing which will greatly improve the station experience in wet weather conditions for customers boarding and alighting our long-distance Voyager and high-speed trains which use platform one at Derby.

“I’m really pleased that this important improvement work is taking place at night which means our customers and train crew colleagues will not be inconvenienced.”
