ONE of the 1926-produced LNER nameplates carried by celebrity ‘A3’ Pacific Flying Scotsman during its pre-preservation career is going under the hammer in Pershore on November 17.

The solid brass plate, which replaced those originally fitted to the then ‘A1’ in 1924, was carried on the right-hand side, and carries a lifetime of knocks and bumps.

The locomotive’s later pre-Nationalisation number 103 is engraved into the bottom of one of the mounting webs.

The auction lot includes a number of photographs of the loco, while a solid brass oval plate that was fitted to the locomotive following its overhaul by Vickers Engineering Works at Barrow-in-Furness in 1977/78 forms a separate lot.
