First Quito metro train delivered

HE first CAF metro train for Quito Line 1 arrived in the Ecuadorian capital on September 6 after completing its sea voyage from Spain.

CAF was awarded a contract in July 2016 to supply 18 1.5kV dc overhead trains for the 22.5km line from Quitumbe to El Labrador, which is now 75%-complete.

Each 109.1m-long train is formed of four motor cars and four trailers and accommodates 1259 passengers (at 6p/m2), 144 of them seated. The trains feature full-width gangways, passenger Wi-Fi and CCTV.

The 15-station line will have a commercial speed of 37km/h and a journey time of 34 minutes between the two terminus stations.
