Lake Balaton line upgrading funding

HUNGARY: The EU has allocated €193m from the Cohesion Fund to support modernisation of the 123 km line around the south side of Lake Balaton between Székesfehérvár and Keszthely (RG 7.17 p40).

Modernisation of the entire route from Budapest to Keszthely is to take place in two stages, with the latest investment focused on the 53 km between Szántód-Kőröshegy and Balatonszentgyörgy. As part of the project, 38 road and 124 pedestrian crossings will be modernised, and 13 new pedestrian crossings installed. Completion is planned by April 2019.

‘By enhancing transport infrastructure, this project will offer better services to thousands of travellers using the railway line every day’, said Commissioner for Regional policy Corina Crețu on July 20. ‘This will bring many advantages for the economy and tourism in the Balaton region.
