Škoda selected for Warsaw Metro train contract

WARSAW Metro has selected a consortium of Škoda Transportation and Škoda Vagonka as preferred bidders to supply 74 driving cars and 148 intermediate cars formed into 37 seven-car sets, with an option for eight additional trains – the metro’s largest-ever order for new rolling stock.
The Zlotys 1.608bn ($USD 432m) gross bid from the consortium was the lowest of the five bids received by Warsaw Metro, and one of only two within its budget of Zlotys 1.69bn, the other coming from Stadler Poland, offered a price of Zlotys 1.656bn gross.
The remaining three bids from Alstom Konstal, CAF, and a consortium of Siemens Poland, Siemens Austria and Newag, ranged from Zlotys 1.7bn to Zlotys 2.2bn.

Warsaw Metro currently operates 18 six-car Metropolis trains supplied by Alstom, 35 six-car Inspiro trains supplied by Siemens and Newag, and 22 six-car series 81 trains supplied by Metrowagonmash, Russia.
