Stadler Introduces Class 99 Bi-Mode Locomotive to UK Market 

Stadler has introduced its Class 99 bi-mode Co’Co’ locomotives to the UK, following a successful rollout across Europe.

Approximately 100 of the EURODUAL 6-axle locomotives have been sold across the continent, and the Class 99 has now been adapted to the British gauge and specifications.

Stadler says these new Class 99 bi-mode Co’Co’ locomotives represent a new generation of locomotives that offer rail operators both economic and environmental benefits.

They can run on 25kV AC electrified lines with a power of 6,000 kilowatt at the wheel and operate on non-electrified lines through the use of their high-power low-emission Stage-V engine.

The locomotives are able reach speeds of up to 120 kilometres an hour and have a tractive effort of up to 500 kilonewton.

Stadler has received its first UK order from leasing company Beacon Rail and GB Railfreight (GBRF), signing an agreement for the supply of 30 Class 99 bi-mode Co’Co’ locomotives including spare parts.
