Alstom Wins Two Major Signalling Projects in Turkey

Turkey’s General Directorate of Infrastructure Investments (AYGM) and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality have chosen Alstom to help upgrade the country’s signalling infrastructure.

The organisations have awarded the manufacturer two new signalling projects that will help facilitate border crossings, increase reliability and commercial speeds and decrease maintenance costs.

Signalling Project 1

The first project relates to AYGM’s 200+ kilometre Bandirma– Bursa– Yenisehir– Osmaneli (BBYO) high standard railway project.

Through Kalyon Insaat Sanayi ve Ticaret, Alstom will provide Interflo 250 and 450, European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) level 1 & 2, and deploy the entire interlocking system including the traffic control centre.

In addition, it’s been tasked with installing a smart object controller with the system, in order to remove obsolescence risks with legacy systems.

This also enables the signalling systems to interface over modern fibre-based digital networks and GSM-R ensuring the line with be fully interoperable with all trains running on Turkey’s network.

Signalling Project 2

The second project, for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, will see Alstom supply, test and commission the Cekmekoy-Sancaktepe-Sultanbeyli (CSS) metro line’s 11km signalling system.

This will include the supply of wayside equipment for eight stations and on-board systems and the Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling for four new trains.

These driverless systems will shorten headways between trains by 90 seconds.
