Stadler has transported its first Citylink tram-train from Valencia in Spain to Szentes, Hungary, where it is now housed in its temporary home, the maintenance depot of Hungarian Railway Company MÁV.

The three-car Citylink prototype was transported by special shipment, a journey that lasted nine days. Stadler will deliver a further seven units. All eight tram-trains are to enter commercial service between Szeged and Hódmezővásárhely in southern Hungary in the final quarter of 2021.

MÁV-START Zrt. and Stadler signed the contract for eight bi-mode tram-trains with an option for four additional units in May 2017. As tram-trains, the units will be able to run on both tram networks of Szeged and Hódmezővásárhely as well as between the two urban centres. These are the first tram-trains in Hungary.

In 2020 MÁV-START ordered the four additional tram-trains from the option in 2020.

On the tram networks, the Citylink tram-trains will operate under 600V DC overhead lines. Between the cities, the tram-trains will run on diesel power with a top speed of 100km/h. Each Citylink tram-train has a capacity of 216, 92 of them seated.

The accessible vehicles are low-floor and barrier-free. They are equipped with HVAC, CCTV and PIS systems.

Other countries that have Citylink light-rail vehicles are Germany, Spain, Mexico and the United Kingdom.
