Alstom’s SriCity factory in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh has reached the milestone of having manufactured 500 metro cars, equalling a total of 112 metro trainsets.

The SriCity factory began operations in September 2012 and its first contract was to manufacture metro cars for the Chennai Metro. Since then, employees at the site have put in more than two million manufacturing and testing hours. The site now has the capacity to build 480 cars per year.

When India put in place Unlock 1.0 – a first opening up following the coronavirus crisis – the SriCity factory was able to dispatch the first two trainsets for Montreal, Canada (Réseau Express Métropolitain).

The SciCity factory is currently manufacturing metro cars for the Aqua Line of the Mumbai Metro as well as further metro cars for Montreal and for the City and Southwest extension of the Sydney Metro.
