Hitachi to Build New Intercity Trains for Avanti West Coast | Rolling Stock

Hitachi has been chosen by franchise operator First Trenitalia – Avanti West Coast – to build the new intercity fleet. Avanti West Coast took over the franchise from Virgin on 8 December. The contract with Hitachi is worth more than 350 million GBP and is for 23 new intercity trains. They will enter service in 2022 and consist of 10 seven-car electric trains and 13 five-car bi-mode trains.

Alstom-Bombardier Consortium Wins Paris Metro Contract | Rolling Stock

Alstom and Bombardier have won the contract to design and manufacture the next generation of metro trains for Île-de-France Mobilités and RATP. The contract for 44 trains is worth 530 million euros. The contract includes options for the clients to purchase an additional 410 metro trains. The 44 trains will consist of 30 five-car trains and 14 four-car trains and will enter into service between 2024 and 2026.

Alstom to Supply 31 Regional Trains to Lombardy Region | Rolling Stock

Ferrovienord has awarded Alstom a contract for 31 regional trains for Lombardy. This contract is part of a framework agreement for a maximum of 61 trains that the two parties signed on the same occasion. Alstom will deliver the electric trains, from its Coradia Stream range, from 2022 onwards. The initial order is worth 194 million euros.

McKinsey: Australia’s Infrastructure Innovation Imperative | Comment

In September 2019 McKinsey published a report entitled ‘Australia’s Infrastructure Innovation Imperative’. Two of its authors, Ishaan Nangia and Steve Joseph, talk to Railway-News about their findings, with a specific focus on investment in the country’s railways, saying: “Rail accounts for a large proportion of total major project spend. In some states it’s well over 50%. Recent rail projects tend to drive attraction of market entrants and global expertise, development of the financing models and risk allocation, and evolution of new project techniques and innovations.”

Transport for NSW: The Transport Digital Accelerator | Comment

Stephanie Salter, the Director of the Transport Digital Accelerator in New South Wales explains how the accelerator came into existence and how it aims to help shape the ‘Future Transport Technology’ roadmap. Located inside the Sydney Startup Hub, the Accelerator has already completed a number of trials and proofs of concept with its partners, such as a trial with Cisco.

RIA at AusRAIL PLUS 2019: The UK and Australasian Rail Industries | Comment

Australia’s largest railway event, AusRAIL, took place in Sydney last week (3–5 December). The UK’s Railway Industry Association (RIA) had a pavilion at the show, following RIA and the Australasian Railway Association (ARA) – the event organiser – announcing a partnership earlier this year as part of a UK rail trade delegation visit. RIA says Australia is a priority market for its members.

First Alstom Citadis Tram for Île-de-France T9 Line Inaugurated | Rolling Stock

The first Alstom Citadis tram for the T9 tram line for Île-de-France was inaugurated in Orly on 3 December. In total Alstom will supply 22 Citadis X05 trams, which will enter into service in December 2020 when the tram line opens. Alstom began delivering on the order in November 2019. The new tram line will be 10.3km long and feature 19 stations.

All New Metro Trains for Bangkok Skytrain Now in Service | Rolling Stock

Siemens Mobility and Bozankaya were to deliver 22 metro trains for the Green Line of Bangkok’s Skytrain system. All 22 of these metro trains are now carrying passengers on the line. As part of the contract, Siemens Mobility will maintain this rolling stock for a period of 16 years. Further extensions to the Green Line are already under construction and in planning.
