ABB to Power More than 300 Stadler Trains in Europe

Stadler Valencia has contracted ABB to power more than 300 new trains and locomotives in Europe with its traction technologies.

These orders are valued at approximately 170 million USD and include ABB’s traction converters and motors.

The ABB traction technologies will be used on railway networks across Europe in countries such as Spain, Portugal, UK, Germany or Austria to power trains based on Stadler’s tram-train CITYLINK model.

Stadler’s CITYLINK vehicles can be operated electrically on the tram network and mainline networks at speeds of up to 100 kilometres per hour.

ABB will power these trains with traction systems from its Bordline® family. These systems convert the electrical energy from the overhead power line to the right voltage and frequency to drive the traction motors.

The selected converters for CITYLINK will integrate all the power electronics, including traction and auxiliary power, in a single box, thus minimising vehicle weight, saving energy and easing maintenance.
