The 4-voltage high-speed Avelia Horizon trains meet the requirements of European traffic. Thanks to their aerodynamic design and advanced traction drives, the new-generation trains also use 20% less energy than SNCF’s current TGV trainsets.

Each train consists of two shortlength power-carriages and articulated double-decker passenger carriages. The design enables a 20% increase in passenger capacity, with the highest-capacity configuration accommodating up to 740 passengers.

The order, valued at roughly 590 million EUR (593.68m USD), is the second made from the Avelia Horizon innovation partnership framework agreement and completes SNCF Voyageurs’s 100 train order.

The total cost of the Avelia Horizon fleet is 20% lower than that of the previous generation, and maintenance costs for the new fleet will be 30% lower.

Jean-Baptiste Eyméoud, President of Alstom France, said:

“This order once again seals the success of very high-speed trains and of the Avelia Horizon platform.

“This solution meets the technological, economic and competitive challenges of SNCF, in an environment of strong passenger demand for low-carbon mobility solutions.”
